Joe Pyland
Caddie for Boo Weekley

Joe Pyland, like Boo Weekley, grew up in Milton, Fla. and spent a lot of time at Tanglewood Golf Course. He served in Iraq prior to his commitment to Weekley as his caddie. Now, he enjoys helping Boo with his game and managing the team’s work on the PGA TOUR courses.

When did you first meet Boo?
Actually, we grew up together. I graduated from Milton High where he went to school, too. He won somewhere around 30 mini-tour events and I kept up with him because I play, too. I was at a Hooter’s Tour event and he was playing. I had helped a mutual friend try to qualify on Monday and Boo asked if I would work for him. I had never caddied before. So, it was new to me.

When did you decide to hit the road and start caddying for him?
After that Hooter’s Tour event about four years or so ago. He wanted somebody he knew and was comfortable with him. Going on the road to different places was a new deal for both of us. We were fish out of water, for sure.

What other sports did you play growing up. Or, still play?
I love football and racing. I played golf, too.

What is your favorite stretch of holes at Quail Hollow Club?
When you start going around the lake at 14. That is a stretch where you can get a good score and get a bad score. You have to be really careful there. Plus, I like watching the wildlife around the water.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while on the job?
Just listening to Boo talk, pretty much. He comes up with some things to say. He calls me Joe-Joe alot and that gets a funny look from some people. We tag-team a lot in having fun with the fans. We both think that is important. In fact, some fans think we are brothers.

Describe the feeling when you and Boo were winning your first tournament together.
It was really cool. Of course, we had to chip in on 17 at Hilton Head to get going on that final round. But once we had won it, I was so tired. It was exhausting, but at the same time you are so happy.
