Inaugural Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence Event to be hosted by Wachovia Championship in Collaboration with the PGA TOUR Wives Association and the Avon Foundation

At this year’s Wachovia Championship the PGA TOUR Wives Association, in collaboration with the Avon Foundation, will make Tuesday, April 28 a very special day at Quail Hollow Club. For the first time ever, a PGA TOUR venue will be the site of a fund and awareness-raising event; Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence which will benefit Domestic Violence organizations in North Carolina.

“The Wachovia Championship seemed like the perfect tournament for this event. Not only is Quail Hollow a beautiful place to walk, but the enthusiasm surrounding the Championship is special as well,” said Sara Moores, Executive Director of the PGA TOUR Wives Association. “From the beginning the Wachovia Championship has been a huge supporter of the PGA TOUR Wives Association and we are proud to partner with the tournament and the Avon Foundation as we create awareness and raise much needed funds for domestic violence programs in this region.”

“The Avon Foundation is committed to Speaking Out Against Domestic Violence,” says Carol Kurzig, President, Avon Foundation. “In Mecklenburg County, police receive more than 700 calls a week about domestic disturbances and we are thrilled that the Wachovia Championship and the PGA TOUR Wives Association are stepping up for this cause. Money raised will go to the United Family Services Shelter for Battered Women and The Shelter of Gaston County.”

Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence is a non-competitive, family-friendly event. Registration will begin January 15 via www.walkthecourseagainstdv.org and same-day registration will take place at Forest Hill Church near Quail Hollow Club. All participants will receive one-time, same-day admission to the Wachovia Championship so they can participate in the Walk.

Patrons can participate in either the 18-hole walk, which is nearly five miles, or the nine-hole walk, measuring approximately two and a half miles. Check-in for all participants will begin at 3:00 p.m., the 18-hole walk starts at 5:15 p.m. and the 9-hole walk begins at 6:15 p.m.
