Committee - Marshal Rover Pool
7th Year Volunteer

Candy, where are you from and how many years have you volunteered with the Championship?
I am a third generation Charlottean and have volunteered every day of the tournament from day one.

What committee are you volunteering with? Can you explain your daily duties?
I work with the roving marshals. We have a “pool” of people everyday that fill in wherever needed. It can be anything from filling in for a marshal that was not able to volunteer that day to walking with one of the top players. I keep the list of the roving marshals and assign them duties as needed.

What characteristics about this tournament have brought you to volunteer?
I was just so excited to have the PGA TOUR back in Charlotte. I remember going to The Kemper when I was in college. This is a wonderful shining star for Charlotte and I wanted to be a part of it.

What is your greatest memory from volunteering at the Championship?
There are so many but I have one from the first year. It was a practice round day and I was at Hole #6. It is a long par 3. Fred Funk was getting ready to hit. There were golfers on the green. He looked at me and said “There is no way I can reach the green so I am going to go ahead and hit.” Well his ball landed on the green about 10 feet from the hole. He fell back on the ground and said “That is the farthest I have ever hit a golf ball.”

What would be your advice to people thinking of volunteering in the future?
If you love golf, want to have a blast, and like being around people then The Championship is the place for you.

Any predictions for the 2009 Championship?
Phil Mickelson is due to win and I would love to see that happen. He always gives the tournament great reviews. I have become a Kenny Perry fan as well. I would love to see him come and do well before he joins the Champion’s tour. Boo Weekley is such a crowd favorite and I hope he comes back and has a great week.

Any other comments?
It has really been an honor to work with such a wonderful organization.
