Five questions for Executive Director, Kym Hougham, Post-Tournament activities.

What would be your overall assessment of this year’s tournament? And, if you can, compare it to previous years.
I think this year was perhaps the best we have had so far because every aspect of the tournament went smoothly and the patron experience was enhanced even in these tough economic times.

Explain the transition to a new trophy and a blue blazer fans saw Sunday night.
Because of the new name of the tournament we had to find a new trophy. The one given to Sean O’Hair Sunday night was a trophy that represented not only the tournament but also Quail Hollow Club. The darker blue blazer matched the new colors of our logo.

For some reason there continues to be a misconception regarding the reasons the top players in the world come to the Quail Hollow Championship. Please explain.
Yes. People seem to think we throw a lot of perks at the players to get them to come to the tournament. If Southern Hospitality and a great golf course are perks—then we are guilty. We simply try to do a lot of little things for the players and caddies when they are in town to make them feel welcome and treat them as if they were guests in our homes. The simple fact is that we provide great southern hospitality, have a superior golf course and date on the PGA TOUR.

There also still seems to be some confusion regarding sponsorship of the tournament.
I want to make sure everybody understands that this tournament is going to be here through 2014 and we have a title sponsorship agreement through that time period. We have one of the longest sponsorship agreements on the current PGA TOUR schedule. Everybody can plan to attend the Quail Hollow Championship for five more years and once we reach 2014, we will see what the future holds then.

What was the best part of tournament week for you?
The way that the players, sponsors, ambassadors and the citizens of Charlotte supported this event in a very difficult economic situation. I think it shows the strength and popularity of the tournament and how much it does mean to Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
