Behind the Scenes with Executive Director, Kym Hougham

This is always an interesting time of the year-- when one PGA TOUR season ends and a new season begins.

It certainly was a good year for a few of our champions. Rory McIlroy became our first two-time champion and also won the World Golf Championships Cadillac Match Play event, Rickie Fowler captured THE PLAYERS Championship and Deutsche Bank Championship; Jim Furyk won the RBC Heritage, and J.B. Holmes won the Shell Houston Open. Fowler, Holmes and Furyk were also part of the victorious United States team in the Presidents Cup this fall.

Did you know our 13 champions, collectively, have 162 career wins on the PGA TOUR?

As they start to prepare for another season, all of us in the tournament office are doing the same.

Planning and preparation have begun. However, we are still excited about this year’s tournament and all of the positives that came out of the week. I know we say it often but without the support of the volunteers, the community of Charlotte, the fans, our corporate and title sponsor, it would be impossible to stage and conduct a tournament of this magnitude. We continue to receive so many compliments regarding the atmosphere and experience of tournament week on and away from the golf course. That is a wonderful reflection on all of you.

We also are starting to meet new people and develop friendships in Wilmington, where we will conduct the Wells Fargo Championship in 2017. All of the staff made a visit recently to get ticket sales started there and meet some of the people of the community. The city of Wilmington and surrounding areas are really excited to have a professional sports event coming to their area. We already know the same passion for the tournament will be there just as it is in Charlotte.

Enjoy the start of a new PGA TOUR season and keep up with our champions. They are your champions, too, and it is always fun to watch as they go from tournament to tournament competing before they come to Charlotte in May.
