Two-time champion Rory McIlroy recorded 24 birdies during his win at the 2016 Deutsche Bank Championship which was the third best total in his career. The most career birdies in an event on TOUR for McIlroy is 27 which he accumulated on his way to winning the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship.
The last two PGA TOUR Rookies of the Year —Chesson Hadley (2014) and Daniel Berger (2015) have done well at the Wells Fargo Championship. Hadley finished tie for 20th in 2015 and tied for 11th this year. Berger was tied for 17th in 2016 and tied for 28th this year.
Players born in the state of California have won the Wells Fargo Championship four times, the most of any state. Tiger Woods started the trend with his victory in 2007. He was followed by Anthony Kim, Derek Ernst and Rickie Fowler.
When James Hahn recorded eagle on the par-five 7th hole in the final round this year, he became the fifth champion to do so. Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods also had an eagle on the 7th hole on their way to victory. Rory McIlroy had an eagle on Hole 15 and Lucas Glover made eagle on Hole 10.
While Phil Mickelson may be the tournament’s all-time leader with nine top-10 finishes, it is no secret he struggles on the final three holes at Quail Hollow Club. In 13 starts, Mickelson is 42-over-par on the Green Mile. He has recorded seven double-bogeys and one triple-bogey on the closing holes.
